“Milestones didn’t just change our lives. It saved our lives.”
Brooke’s Story
“For seven years, I had tucked that trauma so far deep in the recesses to survive. And by doing the grief work and doing some of the trauma work, I thought that I was surviving. But what I learned when I got here was that it wasn’t surviving, to live or to thrive, I was surviving to get from one moment to the next.
All of my life, I’ve been told to be strong. But at the end of the day, we’re all human, and we’re all ultimately fragile. It was very hard for me to think that I not only needed it but deserved to do something for myself in that capacity. But it wouldn’t take very long before I really kind of sunk into the work and into the atmosphere and the community and knew that I was in the exact place I was meant to be. The beautiful eight weeks that I had (at Milestones) were not easy—but it was everything that I needed. And I wear that stay as a badge of honor.”
Hear from Alum Brooke about her transformational, life-saving experience at Milestones.
“It may not be okay today or tomorrow or in a week, but it will be okay. And there is something out there for you. We are all worthy of this experience of healing ourselves. We all end up in some sort of crisis at some point in our lives in one way or another because of life. This is life. We don’t walk through it unscathed. But it’s what you do with it. If you can release the guilt and the shame and know that you are worthy of it, then that makes all the difference in the world—it just catapults that healing forward.”
